The image showcases two of the most classic and beloved Indian sweets, both made primarily from milk solids, but differing in preparation and color:
White Sweets (Left): These are Rasgulla or Rasmalai pieces.
-
- Rasgulla are spongy cheese balls (made from chhena) cooked in a light sugar syrup.
- Rasmalai is similar, but the flat, spongy patties are soaked in a richer, thickened, saffron-infused milk (ras). Given the smooth, oblong shape, they appear to be a variety of Rasgulla or a related white milk sweet.
Orange/Brown Sweets (Right): These are Gulab Jamun.
- These are deep-fried balls made from khoya (reduced milk solids) or milk powder, soaked in a rose-flavored sugar syrup.
